Summary

Hurricane Irma was one of the strongest storms ever measured in the Atlantic and caused catastrophic damage across the Caribbean. This fund will provide relief to survivors in the form of emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine in addition to longer-term recovery assistance to help residents recover and rebuild. All donations to this fund will exclusively support any necessary relief and recovery efforts from this storm in the U.S. and the Caribbean.

Challenge

With damaging winds and a large storm surge, Hurricane Irma destroyed homes and critical infrastructure. SARF’s local nonprofit partners are continuing to respond to survivors’ needs and have asked us to help fund their relief and recovery efforts on the ground.

Solution

All donations to this fund will support recovery and relief efforts for Hurricane Irma. Initially, the fund helped first responders meet survivors’ immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Now that the initial relief work is complete, this fund has transitioned to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations across the region.

Long-Term Impact

We believe that organizations that are deeply rooted in local communities are in the best position to provide long-term support for survivors of natural disasters like Hurricane Irma. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future challenges. SARF will post reports about how funds have been used and will email these reports to donors.
